Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy Frankston & Online Australia-wide
What is EMDR?
EMDR is a structured psychological therapy designed to help people process and recover from distressing experiences, traumatic memories, or overwhelming life events.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tapping, or sounds) alongside focused recall of memories to support the brain in reprocessing stored experiences.
What CAN EMDR Support?
Research has shown EMDR to be effective for:
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Anxiety and panic
Depression
Phobias
Grief and loss
Stress related to adverse or overwhelming life experiences
How EMDR Works
When someone experiences trauma or a highly stressful event, the brain may store the memory in a way that feels "stuck." This can lead to ongoing distress, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, or heightened emotional reactions.
EMDR helps the brain to reprocess these memories so they become less triggering. Over time, the memory remains, but the emotional intensity is reduced, and people often feel calmer and more in control.
What to expect in EMDR sessions

Targeting memories: Together, you will identify specific memories or themes to focus on
Processing phase: Bilateral stimulation is used while recalling aspects of the memory, helping the brain integrate the experience in a new, less distressing way
